On sales slumps; Howard's mother in ill health, despite a trip to a sanitarium in San Angelo; on Howard's recent writing (getting paid by Weird Tales, a novelette for Dime Sports, more Breckinridge Elkins, and Spicy Adventures); glad Price found The Barbary Coast: An Informal History of the San Francisco Underworld book of interest, and Howard interested in Armies of India (and his interest in India aroused anew by Dreamers of Empire and Sir Richard Burton et al.; sorry to hear Price's book is delayed; on Lovecraft's "The Haunter in the Dark"; more on the Barbary Coast and oil booms; on one of Howard's cats (and a cure for mange), suspecting a milk-thief, and setting a trap for another thief; on the weather and lower standards of driving;
