Abstract
Sympathies on Smith's surgery; praise for his letter, leading in to an anecdote of police brutality; on sales ("The Thing on the Roof," "The Sowers of the Thunder," "People of the Dark," "The Cairn on the Headland," etc.) and rejections to Oriental Stories, Weird Tales, Strange Tales, and Soldiers of Fortune, with Weird Tale regulars pouncing on Carl Swanson's The Galaxy; on Howard's poetry, with quotes from Lovecraft on his reaction to "Echoes From an Iron Harp" (and with praise for both Smith and Lenore Preece's poetry).
