Sterling having no luck getting a remittance from Mrs. Adolph Spreckels for Smith (with mention of Phelan, Armsby, and the Argonaut review); on the story Smith sent (H. P. Lovecraft's "Dagon"), with a suggestion for a different ending; on the muse, quoting Ambrose Bierce; suggesting Smith might need glasses. Postscript: Sterling sober for 72 days.
