The copies of Ebony and Crystal arrived, and Sterling took them to the White House and Newbegin bookstores, and shall try some on Emporium; Mrs. Clark in San Francisco, and Sterling determined to look her up (mentioning Crocker, Phelan, and the review in the Argonaut); Sterling told Albert M. Bender that Smith was hard up; on the difficulties of putting out books; no reviews in the Call or Daily News yet.
