Abstract
Smith sent a copy of The Star-Treader to Estelle P. Crane; on a trip to Roseville, and planning to return in September when Mrs. Hemphill does; on Samuel Loveman (ill and out of work); Smith ill with love and bronchitis (with a note on love-affairs); John J. Newbegin returned Smith's drawings, and Smith almost ready to give up on drawing; enclosing a sonnet, and unable to sell anything, though he gave two poems to Frank Harris' Pearson's ("Laus Mortis" and "Ecstasy"); asking if Sterling is still avoiding alcohol, mentioning absinthe; asking for more poems, praising "Atthan Dances"; asking Sterling to give his love to Marie Parmeley. Enclosed: "Secret Love."
