FROM Clark Ashton Smith
TO George Sterling

Smith submitting Ebony and Crystal to Knopf, asking for advice on second choice; sorry "Rosamund" is delayed; Smith tried "Requiescat" on several magazines, including Harper's, but without a sale (Smith has sold one poem vs. 5-6 drawings this year); on Mrs. Clark, and Smith's dim financial prospects, including a small mortgage due in December; Smith has been too weary from work, worry, and isolation to write; asking if he has sent Sterling "The Flower-Devil." Enclosed: "The Flower-Devil."
