Abstract

Hoping Smith is feeling better, and on the cold weather; Sterling back from Los Angeles, where the play he translated (Everyman) was a failure; inviting Smith to come to San Francisco for a course of tuberculosis treatment at the City & Country Hospital under Dr. Rathgin; Sterling looking into getting Smith and his parents a stipend from a rich patron, and trying to visit William Randolph Hearst and his mother, Phoebe Elizabeth Hearst.
