Abstract

Sterling has final read the poems Smith sent in his last letter; asking Smith to give him time to reply before sending his next letter; Sterling written a couple more stories and poems; comments and criticisms on "The Demon, the Angel, and Beauty," "The Peril That Lurks among Ruins," "The Doom of America" (with reference to Scheffauer on Ambrose Bierce), "Nightmare," "The Years Restored," "The Refuge of Beauty," "The Palace of Jewels," and "The Medusa of Despair" (and asking if Smith has tried the latter on the Atlantic Monthly); Sterling sending no more verse to Scribners, which has enough verse to last four years; perfect weather, Sterling abstaining from alcohol, good hunting (Turner having a new automatic shotgun).
