On Sterling's low rate of correspondence; on Robert Haven Schauffler of the Metropolitan Magazine (to whom Sterling has shown Smith's "Ode to the Abyss" and "The Star-Treader", and mentioning Schauffler's Scum o' the Earth and Other Poems); enclosing a page from the Boston Transcript with praise from Henry van Dyke and William Stanley Braithwaite; Sterling returned to Caramel, sober and writing, planning a trip "down Coast"; Ambrose Bierce to be in Oakland; John Neihardt sent three of his books; asking after Smith's "Nero", and has heard nothing back from Robertson; on the Lyric Year contest.
