FROM Clark Ashton Smith
TO August Derleth
26-Jul-1944

Abstract

Thanks for the letter, check, and photos, with Smith receiving inquiries on his sculptures based on the Lovecraft dustjackets; Smith still doesn't have any good photos of himself (citing a poor one used in Wonder Stories); Smith picking fruit again, but then will work on some new poems; Smith doesn't have a copy of Sandalwood, but does have Barlow's manuscript of "The Hashish-Eater"; a line inquiring on Derleth's proposed volume of verse (Dark of the Moon: Poems of Fantasy and the Macabre); on the parallels and connections between Lovecraft and Smith's artificial mythologies (mentioning "The Coming of the White Worm," "The Holiness of Azédarac," and "The Beast of Averoigne").
