Abstract

On the Cthulhu Mythos created by H. P. Lovecraft and others (mentioning Ambrose Bierce's "An Inhabitant of Carcosa," The King in Yellow, "The Whisperer in Darkness," Lord Dunsany, Robert E. Howard, "The Tale of Satampra Zeiros," "The Door to Saturn," "The Testament of Athammaus," "The Holiness of Azédarac," "Ubbo-Sathla," "The Beast of Averoigne," "The Seven Geases," The Book of Eibon, "The Dunwich Horror," Frank Belknap Long's The Horror from the Hills, Hazel Heald, "The Horror in the Museum," and "Out of the Aeons"), with reference to possible classifications of some entities, and suggesting Robert H. Barlow for additional detail; looking forward to Derleth's "The Return of Hastur", seguing into Smith's theory "the sea of Being"; glad the casts of Smith's carvings are pleasing; on Genevieve K. Sully, Helen Sully, her visit with Lovecraft and Donald Wandrei; on Smith's correspondence with Lovecraft (with remonstration of H. L. Mencken), which he will send to Derleth; on Lovecraft's books and his aunt (referencing Robert H. Barlow and Harry Brobst); more on Lovecraft's mythos (mentioning also "The Dreams in the Witch House" and various Mythos tomes, such as the Necronomicon and Unaussprechlichen Kulten); hoping "The Chain of Aforgomon" will be accepted, and "Necromancy in Naat" edited by Farnsworth Wright. Postscript: Smith has started Derleth's novel Still Is the Summer Night; mentioning as well Adolphe de Castro's "The Electric Executioner" (surmising Lovecraft revised it), and on the evilness of the Old Ones.
