Glad to have gotten her letters, and not had time to write any of his own; long account of fighting a local wildfire (which broke out while writing a sequel to "The City of the Singing Flame"); on the Fourth of July holiday; Smith's mother has been ill; on George Moore's Confessions of a Young Man and Sister Teresa; Smith not flattered to be compared to Tibbett.
