Smith still laid up with a bruised toe (with an aside on the bad luck of poets); on the magazines Sterling sends; Smith paraphrasing some Baudelaire translations (including a sample of "The Remorse of the Dead"); Smith receiving few visitors. Postscript: Praise for "The Dreamer." Post-postscript: Asking how Sterling likes his yellow paper. Enclosed: "Beauty (After Baudelaire," "The Passing of Aphrodite," and clippings from the Auburn Journal.
