On low literary standards of the day, continuing on into impact of decadence and social theorists (principally Marxists) on the non-commercial aesthetics of the day, and on into the detrimental effect of commercialism (and capitalism) on the same (particularly authors like Robert W. Chambers and Kathleen Norris, and the various pulp genres on the stands - confession, spicy, love, western, horror, scientifiction, 9-man, etc.), finishing up that all is not hopeless and good literature and art still exists (mentioning Alfred Noyes, Edith Wharton, Frank Brangwyn, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, etc.); Lovecraft disagrees with Moore's belief in making concessions in writing (citing A. Merritt as an example, and Clark Ashton Smith as a counterexample), on the superiority of book-publishing over magazines; on politics and the recent election (deciding that despite the Black Legion, Silver Shirts, and Ku Klux Klan it is unlikely to see a Nazi takeover in America), and hope for a peaceful revolution rather than an abrupt upset as in Russia; more on politics and the masses (and authors as political radicals) and the natural reluctance to destroy the political system as it stands (arguing for the rationalism of the masses), on the death of capitalism; an anecdote involving Willis Conover and one of Lovecraft's old letters to Henneberger (former owner of Weird Tales) for a biographic piece on Lovecraft, which demonstrated how much Lovecraft had changed in 13 years.
