TO Clark Ashton Smith
13-Dec-1933

Abstract

On "The Thing on the Doorstep" (and symbols in his writing), more on Roman Gaul (with a bit of fun regarding the Book of Eibon and Averoigne) seguing into a discussion of Lovecraft's affinity for Rome (with reference to Howard's "Worms of the Earth" and Long's "The Horror from the Hills"), ending with an old fantasy of a Roman-settled Providence.

Note: According to Clark Ashton Smith: Letters to H. P. Lovecraft, Lovecraft wrote some of the details of Roman Averoigne on the envelope to 023-0183.
