Abstract
A critical analysis of HPL's fiction, excerpted from Penzoldt's The Supernatural in Fiction (1952). Aside from examining Lovecraft's merits and flaws and some literary influences, Penzoldt gives especial attention to Lovecraft's use of "descriptives" in his climaxes, which he divides into four groups.
